Contagion

Today I watched the Blu-Ray of Contagion, which is a movie from 2011.
I'm not sure how I missed this movie when it came out last year. I usually pay attention to movies with big and familiar names and this one has some pretty known actors such as  Gwyneth Paltrow, Matt Damon, Laurence Fishburne, Jude Law and Kate Winslet, not to mention it was directed by Steven Soderbergh. I was just flipping the channels on TV the other day when I landed on this movie, but it was already halfway done, and I hate watching movies halfway so I got the Blu-Ray.
The movie is what would happen when (not if because it WILL happen) an outbreak of a deadly virus hits the world stage. People will freak out, there will be riots, thefts, murder, everything that is expected with something that'd basically could kill a huge chunk of the population. It has happened plenty of times throughout human history, and it's only a matter of time until it happens again.
IMDB rates it at 6.7 but I give my own personal 9.0 for this movie. I'm all about possible apocalyptic scenarios.

Dredd

Watched the Blu-Ray of Dredd today.
It's weird calling this a "remake" of the original, since pretty much the only thing they kept from the original was the name and the costume. The story is absolutely different, besides the whole "Judges are the Law" aspect of it.
In this movie America is just a giant radioactive wasteland, and Dredd takes along a Rookie, with psychic abilities to respond to a murder and they ended up getting one of the lieutenants of a big crime boss to be interrogated, but the crime boss locks down the building they are in, which has nearly 100,000 people (yeah, buildings are pretty big in the future).
Lots of action, and the blood scenes, especially in the beginning of the movie, seems to have been done by a 16 years old with Adobe Premier. Even though some, not all, of the blood splatter is almost comical, it doesn't really take away the fact that the movie is pretty cool. The part where the criminals have 3-4 gatling guns just fucking shit up is just awesome.
Some of the remakes of old movies, such as Total Recall, are really nice and stay true to their predecessors for the most part, but in this movie besides the name of the Judge and the fact that the guns use DNA like in the original movie, it has nothing to do with the original. It's basically a different movie, or perhaps a decendant of the original Dredd, yet it does such a great job that you are not reminiscing about the original at all, and you will truly enjoy this "remake".
IMDB has it rated at 7.5, and I give my own personal rating of 9.0! Only reason it's not 9.5 or 10 is because of that girl that plays the Rookie. That freaking mole or wart, or whatever the hell it is, on her upper lip is fucking disgusting. Every time they did a close-up of her it grossed me out. Which is a shame because she's pretty, it's just that one fucking giant mole on her lip that freaks me the fuck out. Reminds me of the chick that plays Hunger Games, really hot but with a mole that's fucking disgusting. It's like these people never heard of cosmetic surgeries.

Looper

I watched the Blu-Ray of Looper today. Finally had a little break from real life, and instead of playing a bit of online games, I decided to watch a movie instead.
It's a movie about time traveling with Joseph Gordon-Levitt, Emily Blunt and Bruce Willis. In the future, an extremely powerful crime lord will be sending people to the past to get killed and get disposed of, because in the future killing and disposing of bodies is extremely difficult. The movie is about a Looper, someone that's responsible to kill the people sent back from the future, that didn't kills his future self right away and lets his future self get away.
His future self is determined to kill the future crime lord that will take over everything, and also responsible for his wife's death, while that powerful criminal is still just a child. A "would you kill Hitler when he was just a kid?" kind of deal.
The movie was absolutely great. I love time traveling movies, and this one didn't disappoint one bit. Nice action scenes and the ending was absolutely great.
IMDB has it rated at 7.8, and I give my personal rating of 10 for this one. Doesn't get any better.

PS: on a side note, I tried to watch Abraham Lincoln: Vampire Hunter, but it was so freaking bad, I just gave up after 30 minutes. I know it's fantasy, but they could've at least made him look believable. Seeing a young Lincoln stand up for a black guy was stupid. Lincoln would be the first one to kill a black person back when he was young. He only became a non-racist in his late 20s and early 30s, until then he was a big racist. I'm sure a lot of people are ignorant to Lincoln's history.
