Contagion

Today I watched the Blu-Ray of Contagion, which is a movie from 2011.
I'm not sure how I missed this movie when it came out last year. I usually pay attention to movies with big and familiar names and this one has some pretty known actors such as  Gwyneth Paltrow, Matt Damon, Laurence Fishburne, Jude Law and Kate Winslet, not to mention it was directed by Steven Soderbergh. I was just flipping the channels on TV the other day when I landed on this movie, but it was already halfway done, and I hate watching movies halfway so I got the Blu-Ray.
The movie is what would happen when (not if because it WILL happen) an outbreak of a deadly virus hits the world stage. People will freak out, there will be riots, thefts, murder, everything that is expected with something that'd basically could kill a huge chunk of the population. It has happened plenty of times throughout human history, and it's only a matter of time until it happens again.
IMDB rates it at 6.7 but I give my own personal 9.0 for this movie. I'm all about possible apocalyptic scenarios.

Dredd

Watched the Blu-Ray of Dredd today.
It's weird calling this a "remake" of the original, since pretty much the only thing they kept from the original was the name and the costume. The story is absolutely different, besides the whole "Judges are the Law" aspect of it.
In this movie America is just a giant radioactive wasteland, and Dredd takes along a Rookie, with psychic abilities to respond to a murder and they ended up getting one of the lieutenants of a big crime boss to be interrogated, but the crime boss locks down the building they are in, which has nearly 100,000 people (yeah, buildings are pretty big in the future).
Lots of action, and the blood scenes, especially in the beginning of the movie, seems to have been done by a 16 years old with Adobe Premier. Even though some, not all, of the blood splatter is almost comical, it doesn't really take away the fact that the movie is pretty cool. The part where the criminals have 3-4 gatling guns just fucking shit up is just awesome.
Some of the remakes of old movies, such as Total Recall, are really nice and stay true to their predecessors for the most part, but in this movie besides the name of the Judge and the fact that the guns use DNA like in the original movie, it has nothing to do with the original. It's basically a different movie, or perhaps a decendant of the original Dredd, yet it does such a great job that you are not reminiscing about the original at all, and you will truly enjoy this "remake".
IMDB has it rated at 7.5, and I give my own personal rating of 9.0! Only reason it's not 9.5 or 10 is because of that girl that plays the Rookie. That freaking mole or wart, or whatever the hell it is, on her upper lip is fucking disgusting. Every time they did a close-up of her it grossed me out. Which is a shame because she's pretty, it's just that one fucking giant mole on her lip that freaks me the fuck out. Reminds me of the chick that plays Hunger Games, really hot but with a mole that's fucking disgusting. It's like these people never heard of cosmetic surgeries.

Looper

I watched the Blu-Ray of Looper today. Finally had a little break from real life, and instead of playing a bit of online games, I decided to watch a movie instead.
It's a movie about time traveling with Joseph Gordon-Levitt, Emily Blunt and Bruce Willis. In the future, an extremely powerful crime lord will be sending people to the past to get killed and get disposed of, because in the future killing and disposing of bodies is extremely difficult. The movie is about a Looper, someone that's responsible to kill the people sent back from the future, that didn't kills his future self right away and lets his future self get away.
His future self is determined to kill the future crime lord that will take over everything, and also responsible for his wife's death, while that powerful criminal is still just a child. A "would you kill Hitler when he was just a kid?" kind of deal.
The movie was absolutely great. I love time traveling movies, and this one didn't disappoint one bit. Nice action scenes and the ending was absolutely great.
IMDB has it rated at 7.8, and I give my personal rating of 10 for this one. Doesn't get any better.

PS: on a side note, I tried to watch Abraham Lincoln: Vampire Hunter, but it was so freaking bad, I just gave up after 30 minutes. I know it's fantasy, but they could've at least made him look believable. Seeing a young Lincoln stand up for a black guy was stupid. Lincoln would be the first one to kill a black person back when he was young. He only became a non-racist in his late 20s and early 30s, until then he was a big racist. I'm sure a lot of people are ignorant to Lincoln's history.

Dark Knight Rises

Today I watched the Blu-Ray of Dark Knight Rises, the final batman movie with Christian Bale.

To say this movie is awesome is an enormous understatement. There's a lot of action and drama in this one, after all it ends the Batman trilogy so it had to go out in style. They have Cat Woman in this one, played by the lovely Anne Hathaway and the super villain Bane, played by Tom Hardy. Bane's voice is so creepy and so awesome. And at the end of the movie, we learn that we even have Robin, whom will most likely take charge of the city now that The Bat is gone. Fun fact, Bale said he'd never do a Batman movie if Robin was part of it, but I guess since Robin was just an guy with no costume and that we didn't know he was Robin until the very end, Bale was OK with that.

Bane wants to destroy Gotham and he even beats Batman on their first fight, and Wayne takes weeks to get back into shape to try again. During that time, Bane took over the city and it's completely chaos. All of that and the prospect of an atomic bomb going off at any time.

The end of the movie took me by surprise. I didn't see that betrayal plot coming at all. Like in most Batman comics and video games, I knew Batman would hook up with the Cat Woman, so I wasn't really surprised by that. It was such a great ending. Tying up all the loose ends nicely.

IMDB has it rated at 8.8 and on IMDB's top 250 movies of all time it's ranked at 33. I give my own rating of 10 for this movie! It is so bad ass! You got to watch it!

Ted

Watched the Blu-Ray of Ted today.

The movie is about a little boy that wishes his teddy bear to be more real, and the teddy bear becomes a sentient being over Christmas.

The movie has most of the cast from Family Guy and American Dad. Basically is what if Stewie's Rupert had become real and how that'd played out if that happened.

If you like Family Guy and American Dad and all the 9/11 jokes, racist jokes, completely over the top/dark humor jokes that comes with those 2 shows, you'll love this movie.

IMDB has it rated at 7.4, and I give my own personal rating of 8.5 since I love American Dad and Family Guy.

The Expendables 2

Watched the Blu-Ray of The Expendables 2 today.

It's a good action film. It has an insane cast: Sylvester Stallone, Jason Statham, Jean-Claude Van Damme, Jet Li, Bruce Willis, Arnold Schwarzenegger and even Chuck fucking Norris, and some other less familiar faces too.

They make cracks about each other's movies too. References to Rambo, Die Hard, Terminator and of course how bad ass Chuck Norris is. The funny one was how Chuck Norris got bit by a snake, and 5 agonizing days later the snake died. Snakes should know better than to bite Chuck Norris!

One team member gets killed and Stallone goes after the man that killed his teammate. They help some people along the way and make the world safe as an added bonus. Plenty of action scenes and even get the crack a smile even now and then. The final fight sequence is a hand to hand combat with Stallone against Van Damme.

IMDB has this one rated at 7.1, and I give my own personal rating of 8.0. Definitely worth it.

Total Recall

Watched the Blu-Ray of Total Recall today, and it was awesome!

Some remakes suck, some are good, but then some are just as good if not better than the original and this is one of them.

Unlike the original Total Recall, this one is all done on Earth and not in Mars. There's a lot of little things there were changed from the original, like his "wife" isn't married to another guy, but she was implanted by the big boss to pretend to be his wife. The wife in fact is the ground leader, part played by her real husband in the original. There is no 2-headed Mars resistance leader. But there IS the hooker with 3 tits, just like the original.

One thing I missed in this one was the part where he took out the tracking device. In the original was such a painful ordeal to take that thing out of the brain, in this one it's just in his hand. Also, no fat lady going through the scanners and then the head exploding. At the scanner part it shows us the fat lady, maybe just to tease us and get us to remember the original movie, but Quaid is actually "wearing" someone else.

The original was about helping Mars and all its inhabitants, and without spoiling the end on this one I'll just say that it helps out the people on Earth too by stopping a global war.

Great movie! IMDB rates it at 6.3, and I give my own personal rating of 9.0.

Star Wars: Episode VII and beyond

I honestly never planned on ever posting anything other than reviews of movies I've personally watched, but I guess since this related to movies, I should post this brand new news in here. I supposed I just wanted to remember the day they killed the Star Wars franchise.

Disney just bought LucasArts and LucasFilms for a bit over US$ 4 billion and they already announced Star Wars: Episode VII for 2015. And they'll make Episode VIII and IX as well, not to mention they plan on making a new Star Wars movie every 2-3 years after Episode 9.

George Lucas had this to say about the acquisition: "I've always believed that Star Wars could live beyond me, and I thought it was important to set up the transition during my lifetime. I'm confident that with LucasFilm under the leadership of Kathleen Kennedy, and having a new home within the Disney organization, Star Wars will certainly live on and flourish for many generations to come..."

It seems like Star Wars is going to be just like James Bond, sticking around forever with new characters every couple of new years. Would you have a problem seeing a new face associated with being "Luke Skywalker" every couple of years, like we already do with James Bond?

Disney is on a roll. It spent $7.4 billion on the purchase of animated movie studio Pixar in 2006 and also $4.2 billion with the acquisition of comic book giant Marvel in 2009, and now $4.05 billion with LucasFilms/LucasArts.

I like Star Wars, not as much as Star Trek or Star Gate, and I can't help but wonder how good the future Star War movies will end up being without having George Lucas directing/producing them. A new actor being Luke or Vader every couple of years? Or perhaps they'll completely remove any reference to Luke and Vader and every beloved character and add new ones? It'll be interesting to see how this plays out.

Does George Lucas seem like a happy man after having sold his company to Disney? You decide:

EDIT: Someone posted this comment in some website and I thought it was an awesome casting possibility (/sarcasm off):

Episode VII: Douchebag Reunion
Directed by Michael Bay

Ashton Kutcher is Han Solo (the sad part is that it's got a REAL chance of that happening)
Miley Cyrus is Leia
Justin Bieber is Luke Skywalker
Jaden Smith is Lando Calrisssian
Michael Cera is C3P0
Honey Boo Boo is R2D2
and Snooki as Yoda

EDIT #2: Someone posted the best argument ever to counter the whole "Lucas sold my childhood for 4 billion dollars" comments, and it was:

No matter what, George Lucas just won every argument ever. He's donating the money from the sale to charity.
"Oh, you're sad because I made movies that didn't live up to your childhood memories? Well I just gave enough money to charity to educate every child you'll ever know."

The Amazing Spider-Man

Watched the Blu-Ray of The Amazing Spider-Man, and what a great movie it was.

I thought it was a bit weird making a remake so soon after the last Spider Man movie, but I figured if they can make Batman look bad-ass on Dark Knight, let's see what they could do for good old Spidey. Emma Stone was great, much better than Kirsten Dunst for the part of Peter's love interest. Then again, doesn't really take much to outperform Kirsten Dunst.

It follows the same story line obviously, with a few changes. Uncle Ben doesn't say "with great power comes great responsibility", but he does say that you have a "moral right" to help others if you are a position to do so, and it's your "responsibility" to do so. There's no Mary Jane, but there is still a chick that Peter is interested in. Uncle Ben still dies in his arms due to a robber that he could have stopped but didn't. In this movie however the webs don't come out of his own body, but rather from a canister that contains super strong spider webs, just like in the original comics designed by Stan Lee. Speaking of Stan Lee, as with every movie that was based off one of his comics, he has a little scene in this one too.

You know exactly what's going to happen, when it's going to happen, after all there has been so many other movies about Spider-Man before, but somehow this one managed to do it much better than its predecessors. It's a very moving movie, especially towards the last 30 minutes or so unlike its predecessors.

The movie was absolutely awesome. IMDB has it rated at 7.4 for some reason, but I give my own personal rating of 9.0.

The Day

Watched the Blu-Ray of The Day today.

It's a movie depicting a post-apocalyptic scenario. We follow a group of survivors in their journey to try find a place to finally call home in this post-apocalyptic world. One can only imagine it's after WW3, which sadly is bound to happen someday.

No zombies or anything like that. Just how bad people will become once all rules are tosses out of the window, and what people will do to survive, including resorting to cannibalism. The world has now 2 factions, the cannibals and their pray. The cannibals are branded, and even if they're not from the same "clan" they still respect others from other clans, but if you aren't a cannibal you are screwed. Even if you are a cannibal but end up with a broken bone or too weak or slow down the group in any way, you will become food.

They ended up pinned in a house that is actually a cannibal trap, and while in that house as the cannibals make their move, they end up discovering one of their members is a cannibal and they start to interrogating her looking for answers. They know a lot of cannibals are heading their way, they know there's no way to outrun them, so they decide to make their final stand in the house.

The movie was alright although predictable, and the ending was good, especially the last minute of it.

IMDB has it rated at 6.0 and I give my own personal rating of 7.0.

ATM

Watched the Blu-Ray of ATM today. It's a small indie movie with a bunch of no-name actors with the exception of the chick which was in Men In Black 3 and The Raven, both movies which I've watched fairly recently.

The movie is about a group of people that get stuck in an *drum roll* ATM!

Two guys from the financial institution, and 1 girl that had her last day working there, go to an ATM to pick up some cash and they ended up being stalked by a creepy and mysterious person that's outside the ATM. In the beginning of the movie it shows how 1 of the guys lost half of some person's 401K money and also someone plotting something involving that parking lot where the ATM is located, thus one could only assume it might be that guy that lost his half of 401K that gone mad and wants to kill them? Well, maybe it is, maybe it isn't. You'll have to watch out to find out for yourself.

While he is stalking the group, 1 random person comes near the ATM and he kills him, and the group knows that the weird guy means business. The group tries to bribe him with money and jewelry but he doesn't want anything, and tosses away everything. It's clear that it's personal but how could he have possibly have predicted that the group would have stopped at that precise ATM for that plan to unfold? Or perhaps he just wanted to stalk anyone and they were just the unlucky ones? They start to wonder why this is happening to them, and what each one of them could have done to have upset the mysterious man so much.

When you think things can't get any worst, it turns out they can. That mysterious man really is one mean psycho son of a bitch.

The ending gives you a little insight as to who the mystery man and why he did what he did, as well as to provide us with an idea to what will happen to the survivor of the group. Really fucked up ending, but cool shit.

It was a good movie. IMDB has it rated at 4.7, but I give this movie my own personal rating of 7.0.

Safety Not Guaranteed

Watched the Blu-Ray of Safety Not Guaranteed. It's an small independent movie starring Jake Johnson (the guy that plays Nick on the TV Show "New Girl"), Kristen Bell makes a small appearance  and a bunch of other no-name actors/actresses.

A news magazine reporter chases a story about a guy that wants to go back in time and he's looking for a partner, and he drags along 2 interns, or as he called them "the Indian" and "the lesbian". They stalk the allegedly time traveler and the reporter tries to go undercover but the "time traveler" shot him down. So he sends in one of his interns, the female one, to go undercover and she succeeds.

This "time traveler" is completely paranoid and it might be with a bit of a reason since there's apparently someone else besides the reporter and the interns chasing him around. There's also some side stories going on that don't involve the main plot and they're cool too.

Overall it was a fun movie to watch and the ending was pretty damn cool.

IMDB has it rated at 7.2, and I give it a 8.0. Not a bad indie movie at all.

V.H.S.

Watched the Blu-Ray of V.H.S. (2012) today.

It's about a group of delinquents that are hired to break into a house and steal 1 VHS tape. After they break into the house, it turns out that there's lots of VHS tapes around so they bag a lot of them and watch some of them.

You can't think of this movie as 1 continuous movie because for every VHS tape they watch it's actually a little short story completely independent of the main movie and there's lots of them. All in all, you are watching just a collective of short movies. Some of the short movies are really freaking cool and they're all meant to be really scary. The short movies have different directors as well, so you get to see lots of movies and different directors' works within 1 movie.

The entire movie, including the short movies, are all shot in a 1st person perspective, which I absolutely hate when movies do that but this movie was really cool and I endured through the 1st person perspective aspect of it.

Really creepy and scary at times, other times funny and other times just plain wrong. It has little nudity here and there.

IMDB rates it at 6.0 and I give my own personal rating of 8.0. Definitely worth watching it just for the short movies. The main story line outside the short movies is stupid, but the short movies (the VHS tapes they watch while in the house they broke into) really makes up for it.

Freelancers

Watched the Blu-Ray of Freelancers today. The movie had 50 Cent, Robert De Niro and Forest Whitaker in it.

Movie is about the corrupt NYC police and its ramifications, and about revenge for 1 of the new NYC rookies. The movie portraits pretty much all NYC cops as being dirty.

One cop runs a pretty deep scheme of corruption and takes under his wing one of the new rookies fresh off the academy, rookie who happens to be the son of his former partner. We learn throughout the movie that the rookie's dad was killed by his partner because he was a rat so this corrupt cop feels responsible for the rookie.

The rookie after learning everything makes a power play and ends up getting his new found mentor killed and taking over. But like his old man, he turned to the DEA and made a deal and will now work undercover.

It was a good movie. IMDB has it rated at 4.2, which I really don't understand why the such low rating unless every single NYC blue pig voted it down, and I give my own personal rating of 7.5.

4:44 Last Day on Earth

Watch the Blu-Ray of 4:44 Last Day on Earth today. It was small indie film with Willem Dafoe in it.

The movie is about the world ending on 4:44 AM due to the total collapse of the Ozone layer. The first 10 minutes you wonder if you're watching 4:44 or some Cinemax porn, but after those first 10 initial minutes they tone down the sex.

The movie wasn't really great but it did have its moments, although not many of them. People handled themselves hell of better than what I would imagine had something like this been real. I doubt there wouldn't be mad chaos everywhere.

Nothing really worth mentioning. It was basically just the camera following this couple on their last day on Earth. How he deals with it, and how he almost give in to drugs at the end but she saved him.

IMDB has it rated at 4.4, and I give it 6.0. If you don't watch this one it won't make a difference in your life, not like any movie actually do or should, but if you got time to kill, why not? I watched it and it was decent enough to kill 1 hour. Oh yeah, it's only about 60 minutes long.

Dark Shadows

Watched my 3rd movie of the day, the Blu-Ray of Dark Shadows. I've been busy playing Guild Wars 2, so when I do take a little break from the game I gotta make it count and watch as many movies as possible.

Johnny Depp stars in this movie as a vampire. It has a bit of comedy, drama, goth and romance. It's about a man who sleeps with a woman, only to find out she's a witch later, but soon after he finds the true love of his life and the witch doesn't take well to it. The witch kills his loved one and curses him to eternal damnation by turning him into a vampire.

After being locked away nearly 200 years in a coffin he comes out and seeks out his old home, place which is now inhabited by distant relatives. The witch is still alive after 2 centuries and even tries to get with him again, but he denies her, although he did sleep with her once more.

The witch doesn't take it very well being turned down once again 2 centuries later and goes after his family and everything he holds dear. At the end there's a big showdown and all the family curse comes to light and the witch is defeated but his new found affection is headed towards certain death and he has to do what he never thought he'd do, turn her into a vampire rather than lose a loved one once more.

IMDB has it rated at 6.4 and I give my own personal rating of 7.0. It wasn't a great movie, it did have its funny moments and it was watchable.

Prometheus

Watched the Blu-Ray of Prometheus today and what an awesome movie it was.

Prometheus is the precursor to the Aliens movie, thus you find out what exactly the aliens in the movie "Aliens" are all about.

Some scientists find evidence of a planet which has visited Earth tens of thousands years ago, and they go there, with the ship Prometheus. Once there we learn that not everything is as it seems, and there's some hidden agenda being played out by the robot crewman but we don't quite know what it is just yet.

As expected it goes on to show what exactly that planet was about and how the "Aliens" came to be. The purpose of that far away planet was so that some alien race could engineer a bio-weapon at a safe location, and they'd use that weapon of mass destruction on Earth. They never got to use their WMD since things went out of control and they had to evacuate the planet, but the "Aliens" are still there, dormant, just waiting for the right opportunity to rise again.

By the end of the movie they find a living species of the alien race that engineered the "Aliens" and they try to talk to him but he wants none of that and goes on to kill people and try to resume his original mission which was to destroy planet Earth. The crew of Prometheus makes a hard choice and decide to stop the alien ship from going to destroy Earth by ramming Prometheus into it.

At the end of the movie 1 of the scientists with the help of the robot pilot another one of the alien ships and try to go to their home world to ask questions as to why they would want to destroy us, which is stupid considering they also have the WMDs on that ship. If an alien race wants to destroy our planet and you are carrying WMDs on the ship, you freaking destroy them FIRST before they get a chance to ever finishing their original plan. Stupid scientist.

It was absolutely a great movie. IMDB has it rated at 7.5 and I give my personal rating of 9.0!

Men In Black 3

Watched the Blu-Ray version of Men In Black 3 today and it was a solid movie.

In MIB 3 a bad alien breaks out of prison and goes after agent K, but he finds a way to get to the past to kill K since he wants his arm, which was shot off by K, back.

When the alien kills K and agent J (Will Smith) realizes it, he goes back in time not only to save K but to save Earth as well, since that alien that went to the past also went back to his home planet and they sent out an alien armada to destroy Earth, which was averted back when K was alive.

In the past J finds K and realizes how he actually smiled and made jokes and sees how different he was. Throughout the movie they, younger K and J, try to find a way to stop K from dying and Earth being destroyed, and when they do find the solution to their problems it comes at a price at the end, especially for J. J finally realizes why K isn't the man he used to be anymore, and it has to do with J.

Overall was a good movie and fun to watch. IMDB has it rated at 7.1, and I give my own personal rating of 8.0.

The Cabin In The Woods

Watched the Blu-Ray of the movie The Cabin In The Woods today, and it was a great movie.

The movie is about 5 college friends going up to a far away lodge and bad shit happens. They are being monitored, so at first I'm thinking it's a psychological test, but when zombies come out and started killing them I realized WHERE the people analyzing those kids were located, HELL.

People in Hell are setting those guys up to die, and by the end of the movie you realize why Hell is so involved in keeping those people from leaving and making sure they die, and they have to die in a specific order too. Hell keeps making sacrifices so the "old Gods" don't come out.

The movie ends with a giant hand smashing the Cabin as he/it gets out of Hell. Something older then the Devil himself. The end of humanity happens because 2 people didn't die and after learning that the world would end if don't die they were too selfish and refused to die to save humanity, but then again considering how bad humanity is right now I can't say I'd do it any differently.

The movie has 1 hot and 1 cute chick. The hot chick gets naked but she dies soon after she exposes her boobs sadly. The cute one makes it through the end, tho at the end she'll be pretty banged up.

IMDB rating of 7.6, and my personal rating of 8.5! It's worth watching it for sure.

The Avengers and Item 47

Just finished watching the Blu-Ray for The Avengers movie and it was AWESOME!

What a great movie. You got Black Widow, Tony Stark, Captain America, Thor, The Hulk and Hawkeye. At first they don't function well together, but along the movie they start working much better together.

There were several funny moments, but my favorite 2 were when The Hulk and Thor fight together against some aliens and after the fight out of nowhere Hulk just sucker punches the hell out of Thor sending him off screen. The other funny moment was when Loki kept bragging about being an all powerful God and The Hulk just starts tossing him around like a rag doll, and I mean really just tossing the crap out of him, and after Loki is left moaning in pain The Hulk just says "puny God". The Hulk FOR THE WIN! Shame that 1 somewhat meaningful character dies.

It was absolutely a great movie. IMDB rates it as 8.6, being the top 63 movie of all time, and I personally rate it as 10!

Item 47 is a 10 minutes short that's meant to be watched after you see The Avengers, part of the Blu-Ray extra for The Avengers. One piece of alien tech makes it to the hands of 2 people, and they start robbing banks. SHIELD is sent in to retrieve the device, and instead of arresting those 2 or kill them, they give them jobs working for SHIELD. Proof that crime pays!

Ghost Protocol

Watched the Blu-ray of Mission Impossible: Ghost Protocol (aka Mission Impossible 4) today.

It was a pretty good movie. Cruise is batshit crazy in real life with that stupid Scientology and what not, but he's a decent actor.

The other cast members weren't exactly huge names, except if you count Hawkeye from The Avengers as a huge name.

Plot revolved around how a nutcase thought it'd be nice if the US and Russia went into a nuclear war, and Ethan Hawk (Cruise) and his crew fought to stop that nuclear winter from ever happening.

Movie was pretty good and I'd recommend it.

IMDB rating of 7.4, and my person rating of 7.0.

Battleship

Watched the BluRay of Battleship today.

The lead actor is the dude that played John Carter, and also has Liam Neeson and Rihanna in it. This is another what if aliens invaded the Earth scenario.

We sent out a signal to space, and years later those aliens sent out 5 ships, probably as a forward recon force. I mean, really, if you're gonna send out a signal that says "Hi, we're Earth, we don't have the technology to travel throughout the galaxy yet but feel free to check us out" what you think is going to happen? Any alien out there with the technology to space travel will most likely see any planet as a resource depot, and nothing else.

Anyways, the movie starts out with some Destroyers facing off against the aliens but they got owned, so the 1 remaining crew commandeers the USS Missouri, which is a Battleship, and they kick the alien's butts.

When the movie ends and the credits roll in, there's gonna be a little bit of the movie that shows a possible reason for a Battleship 2 movie. After the credits, it shows how still 1 alien lived.

IMDB rating of 6.1 and my personal rating of 7.0.

The Hunger Games

Watched the Blu-Ray of The Hunger Games today and it was a pretty good movie.

After a civil war in the UK, they divided the country into 12 Districts besides London. London keeps a tight grip on these Districts and to "celebrate" the end of the civil war/rebellion they put together 1 man and 1 woman of every of the 12 Districts into an arena of sorts, and only 1 can get out of there alive.

The main chick on this movie isn't bad looking, although that huge mole/wart that she's got on her lower jaw near the right ear is kind of gross, it doesn't really affect much of the movie since they try their best to avoid making shots of her showing that thing.

The story was nice, as it was based on a best selling book, and you can expect sequels since there's more than one Hunger Games book.

Any movie that keeps me from pausing it to go to a bio break, or go surf the net for a bit, is always a good movie in my book. The story/plot was obviously not plausible, but it was a good movie nonetheless.

IMDB rating of 7.5, and my personal rating of 8.0.

Get the Gringo

Just finished watching the Blu-Ray of Get The Gringo and just wow.

Mel Gibson is bat shit crazy in real life, and he has some hits and misses when it comes to movies, and Get The Gringo is most definitely a hit. The movie was absolutely kick ass. If you have ever watched Payback, you can consider this Payback 2.

The movie is about a carrier criminal that robs 4 million dollars in the US but to escape US police crosses over to Mexico while being chased by cops and ends up in jail down there. Mexican jail depiction is absolutely absurd (or so I hope, because if even 10% of it turns out to be real that'd make it insane), and lots of action. And even when there isn't any action you are still glued to the screen waiting to see what will happen next. Lots of corruption on both US and Mexican sides.

Mel Gibson was simply awesome in this movie. The plot was great, the support characters are good and everything about this movie was awesome. The movie didn't have a SINGLE hot woman! I can't even remember a movie where they never included 1 hot chick for good measure. All the actors did SUCH a great job that the audience didn't even need to drool over a hot chick to enjoy the movie.

IMDB rating of 7.2 and my personal rating of 10! This is a MUST watch.

American Pie: Reunion

Today I watched the Blu-Ray of American Pie: Reunion.

Was great seeing all the original American Pie members back together. The other American Pie movies that didn't have them really sucked.

The gang gets back together for their High School reunion, 13 years after their graduation rather than 10 yrs. Everyone's all grown up, married or with kids or just cool jobs.

There was 2 nudity moments, one for Jim's cock and the other a 18 yrs old chick who was naked and she was SMOKING hot. Like Chris Rock says, "20 yrs old titties are community titties  everyone should see them. A 40 yrs old titties are only your man's titties, no one else should have to look at that shit".

Stiffler's mom hooks up with Jim's father and at near the end of the movie, Stiffler gets his revenge and both Finch and Stiffler are now "motherfuckers".

IMDB rating of 7.1 and a personal rating of 8.0.

The Raven

I am a John Cusack fan, so I was drawn to watch The Raven because of him. He's a good actor and seem to chose his roles carefully, hence tending to be involved in good movies.

The Raven is about the famous american poet Edgar Allan Poe. Poe, in real life, was deranged shortly before he died, saying the name "Reynolds" for no reason, and the movie explores the life of the poet and explores a possible, but really really not plausible, reason for why Poe was saying "Reynolds" on his last moments.

Not great names on the cast other than Cusack, but surely great performances. I'm not big into historical or anything with those old times, but this movie was really fun to watch. Since it was EXTREMELY loosely based in real life, I can say it wasn't a happy ending and it wouldn't be spoiling it since Poe died young in real life.

IMDB rating of 6.5, and my personal rating of 8.0.

Project X and Alien Origin

Project X (2012) and Alien Origin (2012) are both BAD. Do NOT watch it.

I freaking hate these movies where one of the characters run around with the camera. Freaking Point of View (PoV) movies REALLY piss me off.

Project X was about some dudes throwing a party and it was stupid, and Alien Origin was about a reporter that was tagging along with the Belize army going into the jungle to document their activities and they ended up running into aliens, and it seems everyone in the military in Belize, a Central American country that speaks English and Spanish, (although the "official" language is English over half of the country speaks Spanish), has an Indian accent for some reason. Is there a giant call center there where all the Indians migrated to and got fired from and then were hired by their military?

Both movies are so incredibly bad, not to mention that PoV shit that really pissed me off.

Wrath of the Titans

Just finished watching Wrath of the Titans and it was a good movie overall. The chick that played Andromeda on the 1st movie wasn't on this sequel, but her replacement was so much better (or should I just say so much hotter?). I fucking love that chick that plays Andromeda on this movie. She's so fucking pretty.

Perseus finds himself having to fight Titans and even Chronus, the father of Titans. Perseus got a kid now, son of his time with IO that has already died, but the kid isn't too much of a drag for his character.

Cool action scenes, and overall decent enough movie.

IMDB score of 6.0, and my own personal rating of 6.5. Not bad, but not really all that awesome either.

Iron Sky

This movie was actually a challenge to me. It took me 4 days to finish it, because it was so incredibly bad. I hate not watching a movie once I start it, so I kept trying to relax and watch it a bit, then when I couldn't anymore I'd stop it and watch it again the next day.

This movie is about how Nazis went to the Moon during WW2 and they were there ever since until US astronauts went to the Moon and they took it as an act of war and decided it was time to invade Earth.

I know what you're thinking, it's a stupid plot, but the IMDB rating of this movie really threw me off. At the time I had finished downloading this movie, the IMDB rating was 7.4, which is way above my 6.0 minimum standard to watch a movie. Hell, even at the time I'm writing this, the IMDB rating of this movie is 6.9.

After 4 days, and after hating myself for having watching it, I finally finished watching it and I'll give it a rating of 2.0. Only reason it's not 1.0 is because there's 2 hot chicks in there and deserve a little love.

DO NOT WATCH this movie. It's horrible!

Ghost Rider: Spirit of Vengeance

Watched the Blu-Ray version of Ghost Rider 2. Having had watched the first Ghost Rider, I expected a good movie but I was disappointed.

Nicolas Cage is once again the Rider, but this time around seems like they lost a lot of budget. Just as I'm writing this I went to IMDB to check it out, and the 1st one they spent $110M while the second one they spent $75M.

The movie is about how the Devil made a deal with a woman and she bear him a child, and with that child he'll be able to be invincible if he "transfers" himself to the kid. Cage (The Rider) tries to protect the kid and also get The Rider curse lifted so he can live a normal life again.

Movie is boring, special effects are dull, and overall story line bad although the very end of the movie was kind of cool. I really should've skipped this movie and kept my 1st Ghost Rider movie memory intact. Not that the 1st one was all that great, it was only ok, but it had Eva Mendes and she is pretty fucking hot.

IMDB rating of 4.7 and my personal rating of 4.0.

Fun fact: This is my 6th movie I write about in this blog, and the 4th movie that has Ciarán Hinds in it. I swear I'm not stalking that actor. I guess he's had a good year getting parts in big movies. He was in John Carter, The Woman In Black and The Rite as well.

Safe House

Got to watch the BluRay version of the Safe House movie today. It reminded me of Training Day, which is also basically another movie where Denzel Washington plays a bad cop and a good cop is tested  to his limits but remains a good cop at the end.

It wasn't awesome, but it definitively wasn't bad. Between this one and Training Day, I'd chose Training Day every time that's for sure. Same with if I'd have to choose between Pelham 123 and Unstoppable, I'd chose Pelham. I guess he's been tending to do different movies that really remind you of his earlier work.

No super complex twists, and no intriguing ending, but it was definitely worth the watch.

IMDB rating on this movie is 7.0, and I'd have to agree and place this one to the my personal rating with the same 7.0 rating. Worth watching it.

John Carter

Watched the BluRay version of John Carter today. Absolutely great movie. The story is about how an Earth man ends up in Mars and how he ends up saving the people there.

The Earth man is at first reluctant to help Mars and eager to get back to Earth, but after meeting the princess of Mars he ends up falling for her and decides Mars is now his home. The chick that plays the princess is really hot in the movie and her incredibly blue eyes are just stunning. One thing about the chick that plays the princess is that in the movie she is incredibly hot but in real life/IMDB pictures she isn't all that. The power of make-up and good lighting in effect right there. Also, I'm not sure if those blue eyes are a contact or not, since in her IMDB profile pictures she's got blue, brown, black eyes, so not sure which one is the real one and which are contacts. But nonetheless, she was magnificent in John Carter even though in real life she's nothing like that.

The end has a nice twist to it, and I didn't see it coming which is always a plus. Definitely worth watching.

IMDB score of 7.0, personal score of 9.0.

The Woman In Black

In this thriller/horror movie, the main guy is played by Daniel Radcliffe who's of course more well known for his Harry Potter character, and he's still got those crazy bushy eyebrows (is he descendant of Arabs or something?). I'm not exactly sure what year this is suppose to be, but considering "the locals still get spooked" by a car, I'm guessing it's around the early 1900s.

The setting is an country side British town, and Harry, err I mean Arthur, goes to make an inventory of a deceased person's belongings but the house he's making the inventory of is haunted. When Arthur starts to dig up all the papers at the house he starts to uncover why that woman has been haunting the house and why she's such a vengeful spirit. By the end of the movie he finds out why the kids in the town are dying and he then begins a race to try to save his own son from dying as well.

It's an overall creepy and scary movie, and definitively worth watching if you're like being scarred. And the movie has a sad but yet happy ending in case you're wondering.

Funny thing seeing Ciarán Hinds again today, since I've watched The Rite and he was also in it. Well, 3 movies in 1 day, I believe I'm done for today.

This movie has an IMDB rating of 6.7, and my own personal rating of 7.5.

The Rite

Watched the Blu-Ray version of The Rite (2011) today. Great movie with Anthony Hopkins. Then again, movies with Anthony Hopkins, Samuel L. Jackson, Nicolas Cage are usually pretty good. I would say always instead of "usual" if it wasn't for Cage's movie called Adaptation. THAT MOVIE SUCKED SO BAD! I freaking hated that movie with a passion. Worst movie EVER.

The movie is based on a real life account, about a guy that didn't want to become a mortician like his dad, and in his family you'd either be a mortician or a priest, so he decided to become a priest.

Four years down the line, when he's almost done with the Seminary and his studies, he has a choice to make. Either pay 100 grand for his college education that he's received in the Seminary or go to Rome for just a month to attend the Exorcist class. Once in Rome the guy that's teaching the Exorcist class tells him to meet a friend of his, that friend being played by Hopkins, a very unorthodox priest, and from there things get interesting and I won't say anything else as it would spoil the plot too much.

In the end, the American priest that goes to Rome turns out to be only 1 of the 14 existing priests in the US capable/certified to be an Exorcist. Obviously the screen writer had some creative liberty so it didn't really feel like a documentary, and it turned out to be a really great movie.

I could be a little biased saying how great the movie is considering I'm a christian but it does have a 6.0 rating in IMDB.com, which is normally the minimum rating that determines whether I'll watch a movie or not. My personal rating of 8.0 on this one.

Chronicle

Today I watched the Blu-Ray version of Chronicle.

It's about 3 high school kids that get special abilities/powers after made contact with alien technology. One of the kids is one of those kids that might as well be a Columbine killer himself, so you know him having powers would be a fucking disaster. The other 2 are normal kids.

Throughout the movie, it shows how a person would develop/nourish said powers, and what they'd do with them. Of course, the weirdo lonely Columbine-killer-wanna-be ends up being fucking craze with power and starts killing people.

It was a great movie, even if it was on that shitty 1st person Point-Of-View (PoV) perspective camera view, meaning one of the characters is always holding a camera and that's our view point as an audience. I absolutely HATE that with a passion, but the movie was so compelling and awesome that I just couldn't just stop watching it despite having that camera view bullshit.

IMDB rating of 7.1, and my personal rating of 8.5.

Monday, May 7, 2012

And so it begins.

Since normally I can only remember anything about a movie for about a day or two, blame the amount of drugs and alcohol consumed in my teens years, I figured it'd be best if I write down the stuff I watch down so I can recommend it or not to my friends.

Sadly, I can only write anything about movies from this point forward. So many great movies I've already watched and can't remember their names, just fragments of it. Hopefully it'll also help me to remember about those movies in the future if I ever want to reminisce about a previously watched movie.
